PTFE tape, thread seal tape or plumbers tape is a polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) film for use in sealing pipe threads.
The very thin 0.075mm thick, 12mm wide profile makes it easy to wind around pipe threads, allowing for a deeper seating of the threads, whilst also lubricating them which prevents seizing when being unscrewed.
Being a deformable filler and thread lubricant, it helps to seal the joint without hardening or making it more difficult to tighten, but instead making it easier to tighten.
